A plate featuring juicy air fryer steak slices, crispy roasted baby potatoes, and a fresh mixed salad.
Steak, potatoes, and salad-simple, delicious, and made in the air fryer!

Life gets crazy busy, and let's be honest-grabbing your phone to order takeout is easier than cooking. I'm guilty of it, too! After spending so much time in the kitchen chopping, cooking, and doing endless dishes, sometimes it feels fantastic to let someone else handle dinner. And that's okay-once in a while. The key is making it an occasional thing, not an everyday habit!

So, what's the solution? Do you want to eat healthy but don't have hours to spend in the kitchen? If you don't already have one, get yourself an air fryer! I got mine a while back, and I'm obsessed. I tried oven-type and basket-style air fryers and prefer using a basket-style one. It's a total game-changer for quick meals with way less oil. Yep, I still use oil, but way less than I would if I were cooking on the stove or in the oven!

One of my biggest game-changers was realizing how fantastic steak turns out in the air fryer. Seriously, it blew my mind! Now, it's my go-to method-I actually prefer it over grilling! If you haven't tried steak in the air fryer yet, you're in for a treat!

Are you unsure how to create a high-protein, balanced, complete meal? Pair air-fried steak with crispy potatoes and a fresh side salad-the perfect combo! The steak provides protein, the potatoes provide carbohydrates, the olive oil provides healthy fats, and the salad provides tons of vitamins.

Why Cook Steak and Potatoes in the Air Fryer?

  • Faster cooking - No need to preheat the oven or fire the grill. The air fryer gets things done in record time!
  • Less oil, same great flavor - You still get that crispy, golden potatoes but with way less oil than traditional frying.
  • Easy cleanup - Say goodbye to greasy pans and splattered stovetops (this makes me go crazy the most!). Just a quick wipe and you're done!
  • Juicy steak with a perfect crust - The hot air circulation locks in moisture while giving the steak a beautifully seared exterior.
  • Crispy, fluffy potatoes come out golden and crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside-no deep frying needed!
  • Once you try it, you'll never want to cook steak and potatoes any other way!

Ingredients You'll Need in this Air Fryer Steak and Potatoes Recipe

For the Baby Potatoes:

  • 500g (1.1 lb) baby potatoes, washed and cut in half (ensure they are all equal in size so they cook evenly in the air fryer). Instead of baby potatoes, you can use sweet potatoes or gold potatoes; make sure to cut large potatoes into smaller and even pieces.
  • 1 teaspoon salt - adjust to taste, but I wouldn't recommend going over (you can always go less)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb sirloin steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt - adjust to taste, but I wouldn't recommend going over (you can always go less)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Fresh sirloin steak and seasoned baby potatoes on a wooden board, ready for the air fryer.
Everything you need for a quick and delicious steak dinner!

Quick Note!

These spices are only a suggestion and are what I mostly use when cooking meat. You can always adjust it per your taste and use garlic powder, black pepper, steak seasoning blend, or any of your favorite seasonings.

How to Prepare Air Fryer Steak and Potatoes

For the Baby Potatoes:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Coat lightly by spraying some oil.
  • Wash the halved baby potatoes under running water and pat them dry.
  • Toss the halved baby potatoes in a large bowl with olive oil, salt, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  • Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Air fry for 12-14 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even crispiness. The cooking process might depend on the specific air fryer model, so start checking for doneness at about 8 minutes.
  • Remove and set aside while you cook the steak.

For the Steak:

  • Increase the air fryer temperature to 390°F (200°C).
  • Pat the steak dry with a paper towel, then rub it with salt, paprika, and Italian seasoning. Using a silicone brush, brush it with extra virgin olive oil on both sides.
  • Place the steak in the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes for medium-rare (adjust cooking time for desired doneness: ~8 minutes for rare, ~12 minutes for medium).
  • Remove the steak from the air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it on a cutting board.
  • Sliced medium-rare steak showing a juicy pink center with a crispy seared crust.
  • A beautifully plated meal with tender air fryer steak slices, crispy golden baby potatoes, and a vibrant side salad.

Quick Tip!

Flip the steak halfway through to ensure even cooking and help achieve the perfect crust on both sides.

Side dish & sauce ideas to go with the steak

If you'd like to substitute potatoes with another vegetable option, here are some other suggestions:

  • Steamed or grilled asparagus
  • Air fryer sweet potato cubes or wedges
  • Roasted broccoli
  • Prosciutto Brussels sprouts
  • Steamed baby broccoli

Can I cook steak and potatoes together in the air fryer?

Yep, you can cook steak and potatoes together in the air fryer! Just keep these tips in mind for the best results:

  • Start with the potatoes. They take longer to cook, so add them first. Once they're about halfway done, add the steak.
  • Don't overcrowd - Give everything some breathing room so the hot air can do its thing and cook everything evenly.
  • Keep the sizes similar. Chop the potatoes into small, even pieces to cook at the same rate as the steak.
  • Make adjustments. If the steak is done before the potatoes, remove it and let it rest while the potatoes finish crisping.

Wrapping Up

And there you have it-perfectly juicy air fryer steak with crispy golden potatoes made with minimal effort! It is excellent as an easy dinner for busy weeknights or a great option for a date night or a game day. The air fryer makes this meal quick, easy, and healthier than traditional cooking.
