Is Turkey Burger Healthy?
Yes, it is very healthy for you! Find me one person that doesn’t like a good burger. But, you can easily find people who enjoy eating a juicy beef burger but later suffer from gas and bloating. I am one of these people. It wasn’t until I started reading and researching about healthy food that I realized my bloating issue comes from eating red meats. By that point, I was eating red meat regularly and suffered from bloating regularly.
So, I decided to do a test and started eating white meat, which included chicken and turkey, for a certain period. My bloating and stomach discomfort were significantly reduced. I then reintroduced red meat, and, you guessed, bloating was back.
As a result of my diet experiment, I completely ditched beef in my family meals and prepared pork occasionally. I mainly focus on eating chicken, turkey, and fish as an animal sources of protein, and I am happy with how my tummy feels. Honestly, it didn’t feel this good in years. It is incredible how one small change can make such a big difference.

Healthy Turkey Burger Recipe Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey. The burgers will be juicier if you use dark turkey meat.
- Onion. Chop the onion into tiny cubes, as they will combine easier with the rest of the mixture.
- Bread slice. You can use any bread here. I used regular white bread. Dip the bread in water and let it soak for 5 minutes. I typically do this step first; the bread is generally soaked enough when the meat mixture is done prepping.
- Salt and pepper. The amount will depend on your taste. I generally put less salt in my meals.
- Thyme. Ground-dried thyme, in general, pairs excellently with any meat. I added 1 tsp to this recipe.
- Oregano. I love adding oregano to meats and potatoes, especially. Whenever I visited Greece, I loved the taste of oregano in almost every meal. I added 1 tsp to this recipe.
- Avocado oil. I like using avocado over vegetable oil, but you could use any other oil. I found that I don’t necessarily like the taste when I make these burgers in olive oil.
Combine all the ingredients except the oil in a bowl. Clean your hands with soap and water and mix everything well with your hands. I tried mixing with the wooden spoon, but it never combines as well as when you mix it by hand. I used a regular drinking glass as a mold to make the same size patties (see the video). Optional step if you have time – put the patties on a plate, cover it with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for about 15-30 minutes. This way, the patties will stay more compact when cooking. If you rush to make dinner fast, you can skip this step. The burgers will still come up fine.
Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat, add patties, and then turn down the heat to about medium-low. Let the burgers cook on one side for about 3-5 minutes, flip them and cook for another 3-5 minutes. Keep flipping until your desired burger doneness. So, the time to cook these turkey burgers will undoubtedly depend on your stove and how you like your burgers done.
These turkey burgers go excellent on a bun with raw veggies like red onions, lettuce, spinach, and tomatoes. Add mayo and ketchup for extra flavor. They also go well with grilled asparagus on the side. Check out my recipe for easy grilled asparagus with lemon and salt.
